Since the acquisition of Motorola by Google last year, we are finally witnessing the first phone by Motorola. The new Moto X isn’t nearly as powerful as the high-end smartphones of Samsung and Apple, but it still offers plenty of exciting side features. For one thing it has a real voice recognition system, not gibberish recognition that you just play with for first few days and leave. The voice control can simply a lot of basic tasks for you like taking snaps and making calls.
Price:
The initial price of Google Moto X is set to be $850 in US Dollar.
Hardware and Body:
The phone is a 4.7 inch screen and the body is quite comparable to HTC One (only a bit shorter and half an ounce lighter). The display is a 720p unlike most of the high end smartphones and has a pixel per inch display of 316 (only 10 ppi short of the iPhone 5 so it doesn’t hurt that much).
Motorola supports a midrange dual-core CPU, which does nicely for the current Android 4.2.2, but if you think a little ahead, as Android 5 start rolling out, the midrange CPU will fall short of expected requirements to run games. The Motorola makes up for it by adding a Quad-Core Adreno 320 GPU and two other low-power processors, one for natural language and the other for contextual computing. When summed up, Moto X does a fairly good job at balancing its hardware.
Motorola also offers an impressive 24-hour battery time with mixed use.
Voice Recognition:
Taking advantage of the low power processor, the Moto X is always listening. Whenever you say “OK Google Now”, it will activate and listen to what you have to say. There are lots of interesting tasks it can perform without you even having to touch the phone.
Motorola Assist:
The one feature that makes Moto X stand out is Assist. Whenever you are driving, the phone will turn on the driver profile making the phone more driver friendly. If you are jogging it will ask you if you want the text message to be read out aloud. The phone uses GPS feature to detect your movements and set the profile respectively. It’s really an amazing feature and one of the best available in the market.
Camera:
The Moto X boasts a 10 Mega Pixel camera that is 75% more light sensitive than normal phone cameras. The camera is designed to go from pocket to taking a photo in below two seconds (Although this has a steep learning Curve you will need to master).
Moto X doesn’t exactly come up to standards with the high end smartphones in the market, but it still delivers decent performance in its price range.
